EASTERN PANAMA AREA SPECIALTIES |
|
The birds below are not the full listing of birds from Panama. It focuses on the birds that occur in the eastern part of the country away from the canal zone mostly. Includes all raptors, parrots and antbirds for the east. Occurence ratings are from the Canopy Tower list for their Darien Camp area. They have about 400 species for that area. Presently there are just short of 1000 species total in Panama with all vagrants and past records included. NA birds are not all shown here. Asterisk marked birds not listed on the Canopy Camp list. List is not completely ordered consistent with Clements World checklist, now updated through 2011. Some rearrangement within family sections to make comparison easier. And the original list link from the Napo Wildlife center here. A specific bird list for the higher elevation Yanacocha Trust is here. San Isidro area list on the east side above Sumaco is here. And a shortened and location divided list for San Isidro and Guango is here. Also the list for the La Selva Lodge in lowland Ecuador is here. And La Selva's newer list with site localities within La Selva area is here. The new Tahuayo list is here. That list has reference plate pages to Birds of Ecuador. Note that it is not in Clements order and has some older scientific names. Xeno page for La Selva recordings. Papallacta Pass list is here. Taxonomy and nomenclature are updated in places from the older The Birds of Panama: A Field Guide by George R. Angehr and Robert Dean, 2010. The plate images in this book are very high quality. Many of these birds also occur in Columbia. Species Latin names in BLUE are linked to calls or call listings. Most birds here are linked to the Macauley recordings search listing at Cornell labs, and some to single recordings. (MAC links.) Some are linked to Xeno Canto's search listing when recordings are rare. Recordings from the Macauley site when linked to single recordings can be expanded on the pages there to show the full recordings list for that species. Bracketed numbers [XXX:YY] are page and bird numbers from The Birds of Panama: A Field Guide. |
