Robber Flies of Virginia

Based on Fisher and Wilcox's Catalog 1997 (unpublished). Almost all of this states species have been verified. Subtribes are not shown. The large Efferia genus has been split into new genera by South American Asilid scientist Jorge Artigas. This split is not accepted by all fly guys apparently. I have put the new genera in [ ] under that genus.

Paul Bedell released a paper on the robber flies of Virginia in 2010 in the Virginia Natural History Society's journal Banisteria. It establishes a new baseline for this state and region and makes this list much more accurate than many state lists where they are based on the catalog ranges and not direct collecting. County and location numbers are listed from Paul's paper in brackets [ ].
