A Georgia shot from Eric. I was almost certain this was Laphria sericea. That species in the males has a dark mystax. So I now believe it is aktis. And there is a yet to be described fooler that is similar to sericea and separable from aktis in the male. See species X here. L. sericea shot here. L. aktis here. And the view of the male genitals in close shot of undescribed species vs. sericea. That orange color on the abdomen and the whitish mystax (facial hair tuft) shoves it towards L. aktis. L. aktis also has an all dark beard in the female but pale in the male. We have L. aktis in Arkansas in several counties in the ozarks. We never found a sericea male in any part of the state. It appears that aktis is much more common in the east and south than sericea but so far there are no records of sericea in our state. |
