Eastern Sphecid Wasps

Working list of the possible Eastern Sphecid wasps with subfamilies, tribes and subtribes noted. Taken from combined sources including the internet and the impressive but slightly outdated Sphecid Wasps of the World from Bohart and Menke. Ranges are spotty with states and regions listed for known occurrences. These are now updated to literature references from the Catalog mentioned below. I have no lists of confirmed Arkansas species as of yet. "Nea" refers to number of species listed for all of North America at the excellent Nearctica insect list. And here is the updated Sphecid Wasp Catalog from the California Academy of Sciences (covers the entire globe but it is more up to date). Presently there are about 1400 species in North America. Habits and identifying characteristics given where known. Prey choice of species and groups marked in red where known from various sources.
