Two-striped Forceptail Aphylla williamsoni

A species that has been a south and southeastern species but is beginning to push north and now also occurs in Arkansas with Charles Mills' find in the Millwood area in 2006. David Arbour found a state record of this dragon in nearby Red Slough, Oklahoma in 2005. This shot is from Eric in Florida. There are several Aphylla species. All with that elongate club look. The related Leaftails, Phyllogomphoides, occur in Texas and Oklahoma. The thorax is different on each and this one displays its two striped name prominently.

And the record male from Arkansas from Charles Mills' country. He had not taken a specimen at the time of this shot.

And the record female from Arkansas also from Charles Mills. He has become a local Gomphid expert.
