Plains Clubtail Gomphus externus

Another true Gomphid. The colors in the adult are bumblebee sharp blacks and yellows. A dragon found more often in springtime in weedy or grassy fields near water. They can be locally dense around open marshes, landing in the levee ruts below the grass tops. I've seen them taking small spring butterflies.

The female from Sevier County. I think the terminus of these females is very variable. Compare below.
