Blue Corporal Libellula deplanata

A strictly springtime dragonfly. By May it is burning out for the year. Stays down low where the Pondhawks live. Most often lands directly on the ground. The females seem to far outnumber the males. This is the female. The male is blue over most of the abdomen and has more dark marking on the wing bases. Those white bars on the thorax behind the eyes are distinctive. These will land on outstretched arms and nets.

This is the male with the stronger markings on the wing bases. Almost Slaty Skimmer blue but very different flight and habit. This one landed on me and then on this leaf.
