Spring Azure Celastrina ladon

Any early springtime Azure that looks like this is fairly safely a Spring Azure. Into May and after that things get more complicated. This shot is from March and shows the much more marked and patchy darkenings of the Spring species. Glassberg and others no longer believe in the Summer Azure as a separate entity. There may be several species within this group based on different food plants.

And Norm's duo with both spring posterior margins visible while they do some bird poop work.

Springtime Azure with large blotches and the more faint but distinct hind borders. From Bell Slough.

And a Holla Bend Spring Azure that is mostly the dark form.

A spring see through in a sort of intermediate form. From my butterfly bush.
