Southern Broken-Dash Wallengrenia otho

A fairly common skipper which is extremely variable in my experience. This is a very fresh individual. Appears about Sachem-sized. Likes open woodlands and often perches up on tree leaves to display. Can be found in yards where the Northern BD is rare. Inner wing pattern similar to the Tawny-edge but Broken-Dashes are much larger than the Tawny. Northern is generally darker and a Northern this orange would be unusual. I also don't find Northerns with that much color on the inner hindwing surface.

Often locally abundant in the late summer in an apparent second brood, this is another from Camp on the late bending Bromus heads. Brightly marked female here.

And a clean Round Mountain SBD opened for us.
