Northern Broken-Dash Wallengrenia egeremet

A less common skipper than the related Southern BD both of which are variable in my experience. Appears about Sachem-sized as does the Southern BD. The Northern BD is rare in yards and gardens. Uses Panicum grasses which are not part of the normal lawn selection. Broken-Dashes are much larger than the Tawny-edges which do have a similar inner wing pattern. Outer wing surfaces on the Tawny-edge are always orange. The backwards three (a character of both BDs) is usually fainter on the NBD as it is here. The Northern is generally darker overall.

A small outbreak of them in Lonoke county spring 2017. I think it was my commonest skipper that day. And most were fresh.
