Mottled Duskywing Erynnis martialis

A striking Duskywing that is green, copper, brown and purple with sheen when fresh. Appears more banded than the Horace's and is smaller generally. Occurs only in woods with its foodplant New Jersey Tea, Ceanothus americanus. Less distinct wrist spot inside the outer spot line. Horace's females that are this brightly colored would have prominent wrist spots. Much more banded than the Wild Indigo Duskywing. Common in areas in the western part of Arkansas. Can be found in numbers at good mudding spots.
