Monk Skipper Asbolis capucinus

A Florida specialty. This was taken at Merritt Island NWR. Plain, rough, chocolate-colored, flutters around your head like a heavy moth, rattling as it goes. Induces laughter. Shark fin shape and large size make this an easy skipper to identify in its Florida range. Only a relatively recent invader to Florida (since the 1940s). Came for all the planted palms and stayed. Flies all year now.
