Frosted Elfin Callophrys irus The much less common Frosted is found only in southwest Arkansas though there is a historical record for Faulkner county in central Arkansas. This western area is a disjunctive group from the eastern Frosted population. Considered by Scott to be a separate subspecies in the Texas/Ark/Ok area. And it is less marked than this Florida specimen shot by Eric. Note the extended "frosting" on the hindwing. Does not use Redbud or any tree species. Only Lupinus and Baptisia. |
