Dun Skipper Euphyes vestris

The plain skipper that is not so plain. Often with highlights of green and copper and purple when fresh. The small spottings on the forewing are about as marked as it gets. The male often has a distinctly orangish head color. Distinctive overall once you are familiar with them. Likes water. Sometimes the most common skipper along highland creeks. Loves blooming buttonbush.

Fresh frontal of a male showing the orange to green head color and the coppers in the wing. Tom again.

And interior female with the minimal but bright white dots. From the northern counties.

And Rose's fine shot of a strongly marked male exterior. Sometimes with the circled pale band on the hindwing. Note again the dark purples and the contrasting orange head.
