A pair from the Waldron woods. Slightly murky shot but it does show pre-copulation activity. They were highly active and mobile. The female flew over us and then the male came from nowhere and knocked her out of the sky. They both fell into this brushy area. And then a group of humans gathered around to watch butterfly foreplay. It does show the often significant size difference between the male and females. Still, despite the weight disadvantage, he knocked her right out of the sky.

And the first male to show in the yard in 2017 Round mountain. Kept to the cone flower and to this butterfly bush in between crazy flights. Don't think he emerged in my yard but I still have my carpets of violets.
The same 2017 guy as above, thought he wanted some Mum for a bit.
