Checkered White Pontia protodice

Highly fluctuant in numbers from year to year. A very fine white with a striking pattern when fresh. Stays close to the ground anywhere that I have seen it. This mating pair shows the male wing outside and the more highly marked female folded inside. Body often with a green or blue sheen and eyes greenish.

Bob's absolutely pristine fall brood Checkered female. I'm not sure she has ever taken wing from the look of her.

Summer female from Flanagan prairie area where there was a tremendous hatch of them in 2006.
