Arogos Skipper Atrytone arogos

Essentially a prairie species with a remnant population in the prairie patches in western Arkansas. Still very rare to see one even there. This is from Cherokee Prairie in spring. Note the white veining on the hindwing, the white fringe on the hindwing and the darker fringe on the forewing. The open winged shot is definitive but this is a clear exterior shot. A big bluestem eater in the prairie. In Florida it eats Sorghastrum. In New Jersey possibly Pine Barren Reed Grass. The Florida population, is, in a word, doomed.
